Ciera Jaspan wins OOPSLA/SPLASH student research competition

ISR Software Engineering Ph.D. student Ciera Jaspan won first place in the OOPSLA/SPLASH ACM student research competition last week. Ciera's work on "Verifying Configuration Files" describes a principled, logic-based approach to assure the correctness of the XML configuration files that are a ubiquitous part of industrial libraries and frameworks today.

ISR and ECE Ph.D. students have now won the OOPSLA student research competition 4 out of the last 5 years: George Fairbanks, Kevin Bierhoff, Tudor Dumitras (ECE) and now Ciera. In addition, several other ISR students have placed in the top 3 (Marwan Abi-Antoun, Nels Beckman).

Ciera now progresses to next year's ACM Student Research Competition Grand Finals--where ISR has also done well, as Computation, Organizations, and Society Ph.D. student Patrick Kelley won the latest Grand Final round for his work on "A 'Nutrition Label' for Privacy."
